Statement by Think Tank 30 Deutschland Member Akilnathan Logeswaran on President Trump’s statement today:
„Let’s not pretend that President Trump saying he wants to step out of the Paris Climate Agreement is big news. Nothing he says is of importance. His actions however are crucial.
Whether or not he says that he or the US is stepping out of the agreement doesn’t really matter.
What matters is the inaction to act against #ClimateChange, which would have happened without this statement anyway.
What’s even more shocking though is not the lethargy to act, but his order to cut the budget of about US $2.6 billion of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and killing 3,200 vital jobs.
So the big news has already happened in March, when he was hiding this while tweeting weird stuff to keep us busy talking about that.
P.S.: We will actually see whether his words in this matter carry any weight, as it shouldn’t be that easy to step out of a contract that was signed by 195 countries of the planet. It might as well take him up to four years to step out of the agreement, and we will see if he will still be in charge by then.“
